MC EXTRAORDINAIRE

circledmc

I started MCing weddings back in 2007, and to date I have MC’d over 50 weddings and events.  I have a great time doing it, and find it to be a great honor to be invited to such a special occassion.  Actually, I kind of feel like a wedding crasher.  I guess I do a decent job, because people keep calling me to do more.  I don’t dance, I don’t sing, I don’t do magic, I don’t tap dance, I don’t do fist pumps, I don’t pop and lock, and I don’t rap.  Boring you say?  Quite the contrary.  My style is pretty laid back, yet contains an explosive element of understated comedy.  Impossible you say?  Hardly.  It’s all about finding that balance between pushing the envelope and then sealing the envelope throughout the night.  Does that make any sense?  Probably not, which is why you need an MC to guide you through the mysterious, mystic and sometimes utterly confusing ways of the reception.  Stay thirsty my friends.

Wedding Secrets Revealed!

How can I make my wedding unforgettable?

Two words:  OPEN BAR!

How much is a DJ?

Just remember: You get what you pay for.  I’ve MC’d weddings where the DJ cost $300.  A great deal right?  Wrong!  The microphone was terrible and they weren’t on top of the music so it sounded like someone was struggling with their ipod to find songs for each event.  When the Dance Floor opened, he had forgotten all his “dance” music, so people had to get down to light jazz and Sinatra.  Not a pretty sight.  DJ’s who do a really good job will charge anywhere from $800-1500 per night.  If you can find a friend to DJ your reception for cheap, just make sure you’re hooking them up with drinks all night…and maybe a bridesmaid.  I kid, I kid!

How much should I tip?

20%.  Unless the person was truly horrendous, like the DJ above.

Which venues do you recommend?

Anywhere with an Open Bar.  You can have your wedding reception at HomeTown Buffet, and if there’s an Open Bar, it will be the best reception ever!

Do you speak Korean?

Yes.  But on average I use only about 10 Korean phrases, the rest of the night is in English.  In my experience, I find that people who can only understand Korean and not a lick of English will be gone as soon as the food in front of them is taken away.  Eat and Run.

Where did you learn your Korean?

From Korean Karaoke Rooms aka NoRaeBang, Korean movies, and Korean sitcoms.  So most of my Korean comes out in the form of rap or Korean gangster dialect.  “Chingoo Ah-Eeh Gah?!”

How did you become an MC?

It all started one strange afternoon.  A good friend of mine thought I was funny, actually his wife thought I was decently funny and engaging, while he really thought I was mediocore.  They finally agreed to disagree and asked me to MC their wedding.  Turns out, I wasn’t half bad and there was a wedding coordinator there who suggested that I do it fulltime.  I was intrigued.  3 years later I’m still MCing and the couple is still married.  I really think it’s because I MC’d their wedding.

What qualifies you as a professional MC?

I think anytime someone pays you to do something, you are a professional “that thing they paid you to do.”  In my case :  I get paid to MC, therefore I am a professional MC.  Did I get that right, all you LSAT gurus?
